1. World Bartender Day Activation
During the weeks of 10th-24th of February, the bartenders are challenged to create a unique activation to promote their drink. The activation will be assessed by a Suntory Beam ambassador on the following criteria:
 - Availability
 - Accessibility
 - Promotion

2. Written Exam and Blind Tasting

The competitors will be required to sit a formal written exam that encompasses topics such as:
 - Brand Knowledge
 - Distillery Information
 - Classic Cocktails
 - General Knowledge.

Once completed, the bartenders are faced with a much more dubious task.
They will be presented with a range of unknown Beam Suntory spirits, they must accurately deduce the contents of each glass using only their smell and taste.

3.Presentation
Each bartender will have seven minutes to present their drink and concept, in a closed environment, to the judges and fellow competitors.

The highest scoring bartender will continue onto the national final to compete for the coveted title of Australia's Best Apprentice.
